A report for your board and your specialty
The figures on this site are free and always will be. This pulls the ones that apply to you into a single document — both legs of the wait, where you sit in the queue, how your board compares with the other thirteen, and what going privately would actually total once the things outside the headline price are added up.
What’s in the report
- Both waits, not just the one that gets quoted
- The wait to see a consultant and the wait for treatment after that, for your specialty at your board — plus the two added together, which is the number nobody publishes.
- Where you are in the queue
- If you tell us how long you have already waited, the report works out what share of people at your board are treated by that point, and what share are still waiting.
- Every board ranked, with the faster ones named
- Your board's position out of the fourteen, and exactly how many weeks shorter the faster boards are running. Scotland has no Right to Choose, so this is information for a conversation with your GP rather than a lever — the report says so.
- Which way it is moving
- Three years of medians for your board and specialty, and whether the wait has grown or shrunk over that period.
- The real private total, with the exclusions named
- Published prices from each Scottish provider, then what sits outside them: the consultant's appointment where it is charged separately, pre-op scans, and per-eye or per-joint pricing traps.
- The diagnosis-only route, costed
- What a consultation and a scan actually cost, against the NHS diagnostic wait at your own board. For a lot of people this is the decision they are really weighing, and it is an order of magnitude cheaper than surgery.
It opens as a web page you can save as a PDF or print — worth taking to an appointment — and the link reopens it on any device.
What it is not: advice on what you should do. The report assembles what is published and stops there. It will not tell you to go private, and it will not tell you to wait — that is a decision for you and your GP.
What you can get without paying
The waiting time for any specialty at any board, the price ranges, the board rankings and every guide are free on this site and are not going behind a paywall. Start with the comparison tool — if that answers your question, you do not need this.
The report exists because assembling all of it for one person takes about twenty minutes of clicking, and because two of the things in it — the cost total with exclusions added, and your own position in the distribution — are not on the free pages at all.

If the report does not tell you anything useful, reply to your receipt and you will be refunded, no questions asked — the link stops opening once it is refunded, so save the PDF if you want to keep it. It is the only revenue that cannot bias which way the figures point.
